                                             Awareness

Because aquatic megafauna such as manatees receive only very little attention from the public in Central Africa, they are abandoned to devastating anthropic pressure from fishing, hunting and industrial pollution. Therefore, we endeavor to raise people interest in manatees and other aquatic megafauna and make them well known and cherished. This is being done through environmental education, sensitization and civic engagement.

    • Environmental education

Environmental education is effective at changing students’ perception about wildlife and manatee conservation in particular. We use outdoor activity approach to better engage students in environmental education activities.

    • Sensitization

Sensitizing fishermen about the importance of aquatic megafauna and reminding them about the law that protects them is a priority for AMMCO to mitigate the impact on those species. We organize focus groups, community talks and sensitization campaigns in and around critical habitats.

    • Civic engagement

Not only do we want local people to be aware about manatees and other aquatic megafauna, but we also engage the general public in cities and around the world so they can contribute as much as they can to the conservation of those species.
